Physical Therapy Exercises For Shoulder Pain
Whether your shoulder pain is acute or major, you can reduce the pain by performing these exercises. These exercises are recommended by our physical therapist at home near me and will improve you flexibility, help increase your range of motion, and bring greater comfort to your shoulder joint.
- Shoulder circles – Stand with your left hand on the back of a chair and your right arm hanging down. Circle your right hand five times in each direction and repeat on the opposite side.
- Doorway shoulder stretch – Stand in a doorway with your right elbow and arm forming a 90-degree angle. Step forward with your right foot while pressing your right palm into the side of the door frame. Lean forward, engage your core, hold for 30 seconds, and repeat on the left side.
- Across the chest stretch – Place your right arm in the crease of your left elbow or hand and bring it across your chest. Hold for one minute and repeat on the other side.
- Chest Expansion – Stand up and hold an exercise band, towel or strap behind your back. Broaden your chest as you bring your shoulder blades close together. Lift your chin, look up and hold for 30 seconds.
- Neck Release – Bring your chin down to your chest and gently tilt your head to the left to stretch your right shoulder. Hold for a minute and repeat on the other side.
- Downward Dog – Begin on your hand and knees. Lift your hips while keeping a slight knee bend and pressure evenly distributed between your hands and feet. Bring your head toward your feet and keep your spine straight. Hold for one minute.
